February 7 @ 8:15 pm - March 14 @ 9:30 pm
Play. Dance. Self-expression. Coordination. Rhythmicality. Mental Focus. Flow States. Moving Meditation. Ambidexterity. Creativity. These are among the benefits that Poi practice offers!
Poi is an ancient traditional performance art of the Maori people of New Zealand. It was popularized through Fire Poi spinning worldwide and evolved by modern day spinners into the elaborate performance art it is today.
In these 6 classes we will cover the basics of poi spinning while focusing on linking moves together. Gradually each class we will be adding moves to create a sequence. We will start each class with a short warm-up and end it with some stretches.
Bring your natural curiosity, experimentation and explorative spirit to class and get to know what it feels like to spin circles!

Samar Al-Zuairy Bio:
Samar has been practicing Poi for 3 years. For her, Poi has had many transformative benefits; learning about movement and dance through a fun and accessible physical activity, artistic self-expression, being inside her body and out of her head as means to enter what is known as a “flow state”. The nature of Poi practice has taught her about her true nature. She is keen on sharing the knowledge and change that Poi has brought her. Samar is currently a dance student in the full-time professional contemporary dance program hosted by the Cairo Contemporary Dance Center (CCDC).
