insulin sensitivity is the ability of insulin to signal its effects on the tissue. If insulin sensitivity is high, then you need a very small amount to drive glucose to the tissue after you eat. If its low – meaning your resistant this will result in undesirable effects such as high insulin levels, greater body fat stores and impaired blood flow.

if you are obese, both your parentsare overweight or you are diabetic you may want to consider a higher protein lower carb lifestyle or ketogenic diet, which has been shown to reduce insulin resistance.

Glycogen depleting exercise such as high intensity cardio is paramount for increasing insulin sensitivity. Giant sets whereby you choose one muscle such as quads and perform 3-5 movements at a high intensity for 3-4 rounds will also increase insulin sensitivity.
