
2017 was full of achievements, especially in the fitness world. we compiled a list of athletes and fitness figures whom we think shaped our year.
Farida Osman
Winner of Egypt’s first ever swimming world championship Medal at FINA Swimming World Championships in the women’s 50m butterfly.
The best African Female Athlete at the Anoc Awards 2017
Omar Samra and Omar Nour
After 8 days of rowing, Team o2 survived 45-knot winds that caused their boat to capsize in an attempt to cross the Atlantic Ocean.
Mohamed Salah
His goals sent Egypt to the world cup.
Winner of CAF Player of the year award.
Mohamed Ehab
Dominated the men’s 77kgs the world’s weightlifting championship 2017 in the united states and won the first gold medal since 1951. Mohamed has now become the first Arab and African to win 3 gold medals in the history of weightlifting championships.
Omar Hegazy
After his tragic accident in 2015 that led to leg amputation, Omar hegazy was the first Egyptian swimmer to cross 20 kilometers from Jordan’s al-Aqaba to Egypt’s Taba, challenging his own limits and more than 10 species of sharks in the Red Sea. He broke a world Guinness records.
Hassan Gabr
-Created 161 pieces of original fitness video content, influencing thousands of people across all social media platforms.
-Started a national weight loss campaign (#هنخسس_مصر) in which he helped people lose over 500kg of weight
Sara Samir
Winner of a Gold’s Medal in the International World Federation (IWF) World Championships in Anaheim, California, after lifting a weight of 136kG.
Nour El Tayeb and Ali Farag
The first married couple in history to ever win the same sporting title on the same day as they triumphed at the 2017 U.S. opens in Squash.
Asmaa Al Zohairy
Asmaa won Egypt and Africa their first world record at indoor rowing.
She is now recognized as the best at the sport as a female lightweight, after going for 1104m in 4 minutes.
Sally Salama
Sally organized the successful event ‘Glam Getaways’. Glam getaways is a multi-day event organized to help boost Egypt’s local tourism through the most popular dance- fitness craze zumba fitness. The event started with an awesome welcome party at Conrad Cairo Hotel on the 5th of November THEN a cruise trip from between Luxor and Aswan with 15 international zumba presenters from 12 different countries alongside your favorite some local zumba instructors.
Saddam Killany
The Egyptian diver stayed under water for 100 hours and 20 minutes in an attempt to break the Guinness World Record of 142 hours, 42 minutes, and 42 seconds. His doctors advised him to get out due to the lack of advanced diving equipment.
Adam El Zoghby
Adam is the founder of El Fit, one of the biggest fitness competitions worldwide. For its 5th edition that took place in 2017, El Fit attracted more tourism to Egypt and became more recognized internationally.
Osama Fawzy
New Guinness world record in jumping jacks. He was able to do 53 rep / 30 sec.
Egyptian National Squash Team
winning the WSF Men’s World Team Championship, held in Marseille, France. The team reclaimed the title from England after a win of 2-0, they were able to gain the title back after their latest win in Germany 2011.
Ayman Hakky
Ayman is the founder of The Tri Factory, the organizers of the Sah Hashesh Triathlon. For the fourth year running, the Sahl Hasheesh Triathlon brought together more than 1,000 competing athletes from 26 nationalities and more than a thousand spectators for a weekend of sport and triathlon on the Red Sea.
Ibrahim Safwat
Ibrahim is the founder of Cairo Runners. In addition to the many successful events in 2017, with the help of his team, Ibrahim organized ElGouna International Half-Marathon. This event was officially accredited by the IAAF, and is now recognized around the world as an international event. Ibrahim is currently preparing for a full marathon to be held in February.
